Local Christmas Lights Competition to Shine for Multicultural Centre

Main Image.

A spectacular home Christmas light display is set to dazzle Marlborough this weekend, and this year it will also support a local charity.

Kendall Sales a Blenheim local, and his wife Maria, originally from the Philippines and now living in Blenheim via Australia, have entered their Avening Close home into the Ray White Christmas Lights Competition

As part of the competition, participating homeowners nominate a local charity to support — and the Sales have proudly chosen the Marlborough Multicultural Centre (MMC).

Last year, their display drew large crowds, including tourist buses, even though they weren’t officially in the competition. This year’s display promises even more festive fun, featuring:

  • giant three-and-a-half-metre inflatable Santa
  • Fake snow for festive atmosphere
  • blow-up castle tested by local children and pets
  • photo booth for families (including pets), with $10 for five-minute bookings via Humanitix, raising funds for MMC

The competition officially starts Tuesday 2 December and finishes Sunday 14 December. Visitors are encouraged to scan the QR code at the property to vote for MMC in the competition, which could see us receive a donation towards our programmes, if the Sales’ home wins.

Sigrun Steinhagen, Marlborough Multicultural Centre Manager, says:

"We are delighted to be nominated this year. Maria & Kendall’s generosity and creativity not only brighten the neighbourhood, they also give our centre a wonderful boost. We can’t wait to see the community enjoy the lights while supporting our Marlborough Multicultural Centre."

Maria adds, “Decorating for Christmas has always been fun, but being able to support MMC and involve the Marlborough community makes it even more special. We hope everyone will come along, enjoy the lights, and have fun with the family — pets included! We look forward to seeing what magic the other homeowners and businesses bring to the competition this year. We enjoy driving around and seeing the delight and joy that the competition brings to the Marlborough community.”
