An exciting 8-week evening art programme kicked off this July at the Marlborough Art Society Studio in a collaboration between Welcoming Communities, Art Society and Multicultural Centre, offering multicultural and newcomer communities a safe and creative space to explore their personal stories through drawing, painting, collage, and mixed media.
The programme, running from 7 July to 28 August (Mondays, 7–9pm), is designed for those new to Marlborough who wish to express their unique journeys and experiences through art. The course is part of the My Art, My Story initiative, culminating in a public exhibition during Welcoming Week from 30 August to 14 September.
The first two weeks were filled with inspiration and creativity, guided by Anastasiia Shumqo Artist. Participants shared laughs, learned new skills, and began creating beautiful pieces reflecting their backgrounds and identities. “It’s been amazing! Very talented and enthusiastic people—this is going to be a fantastic 8-week programme!” said Anastasiia.
Next up, we welcome Andy, a talented artist from Mexico, who will lead the next sessions on July 21 and 28.
